Travel Study Program
Classical Christian Academy students are steeped in the rich history of western civilization and the cultures that provided the foundation for our nation. The students study people and events of importance as the gospel of Jesus Christ is spread with the expansion of western civilization. The studies are complete in two cycles; grades 2-8 and 9-12. During this study, the students recognize God’s sovereignty over the birth of our nation which is established on the principles to ensure each citizen certain unalienable rights; that of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. Our country stands upon a government and legal system influenced by biblical principles and ancient Greek and Roman cultures.

The Travel Study Program (TSP) allows students the opportunity to experience this rich history that is foundational to this present time. The students who attend these trips will visit historical sites and interact with the history studied. They will then bring their experiences into the classroom for vivid discussion and understanding causing the curriculum to come alive. Three educational trips usually occur near the completion of or shortly after completing sixth, ninth and twelfth grades. This coincides with the completion of the Grammar, Logic and Rhetoric stages of a classical education.

Classical Christian Academy’s Travel Study Program is subject to God’s will and timing along with the manpower to accomplish the trips. The TSP is organized and funded by the parents/guardians with administration oversight. There may be trips that are postponed or cancelled due to enrollment, finances or safety concerns. As always, safety and finances of those traveling are the highest priorities and TSP trip itineraries may differ from year-to-year based upon these.

The following is a description of the three educational trips and are based upon past itineraries. Future trips may or may not include the places and sites named and the descriptions serve only as a vision. Some pictorial examples of trips are available in the school office.

6th Grade:  Civil War Battlefields and Washington D.C.
The 6th grade students are normally presented with a trip to visit various Civil War battlefields (Manassas, Harper's Ferry, Antietam and Gettysburg), Washington, D.C., Arlington and Mount Vernon. During this trip the students walk the battlefields, tour various buildings, visit monuments and gain first-hand knowledge of the history of the time.

9th Grade:  Colonial America
The Colonial America trip provides an opportunity for students to visit Boston, Philadelphia, Jamestown, Williamsburg and other key Colonial sites. Students experience history up close by visiting historic buildings and locations, witnessing reenactments of historic events such as the famous witch trials, and observing colonial villages.

12th Grade:  Bible Lands
As a student completes their studies at Classical Christian Academy, their twelfth grade year provides opportunity to visit the Bible lands including possible locales such as ancient Greece, Turkey, Israel and Egypt. During this time students learn of the cultures of both present day and ancient civilizations. Some of the sites visited include the Parthenon, Mars Hill, the great pyramids and sphinx, the cities of Corinth and Ephesus as well as spending time in Jerusalem and Galilee. Visiting the Garden of Gethsemane or the ancient protective walls surrounding Jerusalem provides a greater understanding of these historical sites noted in the pages of scripture.
